Everyone is invited to celebrate the launch of the Olympic Line, Vancouvers 2010 Streetcar on January 21, 2010 at 9:30 am next to the Canada Line Olympic Village Station near the corner of West 2nd Avenue and Cambie Street. Be the first to ride the train and receive a first rider certificate from Bombardier Transportation and the Host City Team. There will also be live entertainment and the opportunity to meet Olympians and Paralympians! The Olympic Line is a free transit system and will run between Granville Island and 2nd Avenue and Cambie Street between January 21 and March 21, 2010. And once you get off the Olympic Line near Cambie Street, why not check out the light-based public art (under the Cambie Street Bridge) and Neighbourhood Energy Utility interpretive centre?

The 54th Langara College Community Lecture series & VPL invite you to a lecture by Denise Panchysyn. In 1953 a young, penniless Jasper Johns arrived in New York. His cool, deadpan paintings of targets and numbers were a complete departure from the macho and gestural paintings of the reigning Abstract Expressionists who dominated the art scene. By 1955, Johns' show at the Castelli Gallery sold out and he landed on the cover of Art News. This illustrated talk examines those early years of Jasper Johns in New York and the milieu of supportive artists, dancers and musicians who challenged a generation. (Free admission. "art=empowerment: The Spirit of 2010 on The Drive"

The Spirit of 2010 on The Drive is a multi-venue art show featuring 200 pieces of original art incorporating the Olympic and Paralympic values of friendship, peace, inspiration and empowerment all by individuals living with mental health disabilities. The show will launch at Il Mercato Mall on the eve of the 2010 Winter Games, with artists in attendance. Self-guided art tours will be promoted by a unique passport distributed with a map of The Drive; art locations will be marked by a special poster in store windows; and visitors who get their passports stamped will be placed in a draw for a special prize. 200 pieces of original art will hang in Drive storefronts, coffee shops & restaurants until March 21, 2010.

A winter sports performance and dance mobile film festival screened in reconfigured, recycled shipping containers during the 2010 Vancouver Olympic and Paralympic Games. The installation and film festival will provide the public with the opportunity to celebrate the links and dynamic interaction between physical performance in art and sport. Free and open to the public.
