Delta covers an area of 334 square kilometres bounded by the Fraser River, the Strait of Georgia, Surrey, and the US/Canada border at Boundary Bay. It includes three urban communities: North Delta¹, Ladner, and Tsawwassen. This picturesque region offers a family life style secluded from the downtown hustle.

Housing and Zoning

Housing ranges from condominiums to medium priced homes, all the way up to exclusive executive waterfront residences. One waterfront townhouse complex and three floating home developments in Ladner have their own moorage. Single family dwellings still predominate.

With a few exceptions, most new development is "in-fill". A greater emphasis is being placed on environmental and transportation issues. Most new homes in Tsawwassen attract high-income residents.

Retail stores, restaurants, and all kinds of services are conveniently located in all areas of the municipality.

Parks and Recreation

Throughout Delta there are arenas, swimming pools, curling rinks, seniors' centres, community centres, playfields, and parks.

Major nature spots include: Deas Island Regional Park, the George C. Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary on Westham Island, and the newly acquired Boundary Bay Regional Park.

Transportation

The area is accessible by rail, water and major highways in all directions. Commuting to downtown Vancouver takes approximately 50 minutes by car or 45 minutes by public transit.

B.C. Ferries run frequent daily service from Tsawwassen terminal in South Delta to Swartz Bay and Nanaimo, the Gulf Islands and Prince Rupert.

The Vancouver International Airport is 25 minutes away. There is also an airport for small planes near Boundary Bay in South Delta.

Education

Education in Delta is the responsibility of School District No.37.
